I'm asked often how I came to be a formulator.

The answer is deeply personal for me. I have highly sensitive and reactive skin that erupts in blisters, rashes, spots of eczema, and various forms of dermatitis when out of balance. From a very early age, my skin was the focus of heightened attention - as a baby, something as simple as a disposable diaper would leave me in welts, lotions and creams burned terribly, and I struggled with skin that kept me in a constant state of fear and discomfort.

My parents discovered I had a sensitivity to glues, dyes, synthetic fragrance, preservatives, and a long list of irritants. Traditional skincare wreaks total havoc on my complexion, and even many "natural" ingredients  irritate my skin. As I grew older, my chemical sensitivities continued to increase and I became more aware of how much my environment affected my well-being, even beyond my skin. As a teenager, I wanted to play and experiment with new products in the way that young people often do—fun colored masques, scented cleansers, scrubs, and treatments. These things simply were not options for me.  I found very few clear alternatives available in my small hometown in northern Minnesota. My solution was to immerse myself in the study of plant medicine and ultimately create formulas targeted to my own challenges and goals.

May Lindstrom Skin is a unique, small company that works hard to ensure that there is no outsourcing, no purchased base formulas and no shortcuts. Each product is mixed by hand in the apothecary kitchen by experts and every bottle and jar has a birthday sticker attached denoting the exact day it was created. The formulas are rich, fragrant and encourage a ritual of self-love and care while delivering fantastic results for all skin types.

The Blue Cocoon Beauty Balm - £159

A skincare serum that works to soothe the mind as well as the skin. The concentrated formula is made with natural ingredients and certified organic essential oils.

Enriched with camellia oil to moisturise, blue tansy to manage inflammation and lavender for its antiseptic properties. As it is massaged into skin, it absorbs quickly, leaving behind a feeling of hydration and softness.

Can be used as a special occasion moisturiser on skin that occasionally suffers from breakouts or as a daily treatment on irritated, sensitive skin. 

To use, apply a small pea-sized amount to wet skin and massage in thoroughly, concentrating on areas of inflammation.

The Problem Solver Warming Correcting Mask £89

Revitalise and illuminate the complexion -The Problem Solver, a clarifying face mask.

Blended to form a jet-black powder, this treatment contains cacao for its antioxidant properties, bamboo charcoal to draw out impurities and spices to heal. It can help to minimise the look of hyperpigmentation, treat blemishes and support skin’s natural collagen.

This healing powder needs to be activated with an equal amount of water – a tablespoon of each should suffice. Once ready, the rich mixture can be smoothed onto the skin and left for up to 45 minutes.

The Youth Dew Balancing Facial Serum £124

Revitalise the skin and excite the senses with The Youth Dew. 

As part of a beauty ritual, it works to balance out blemishes, sooth sensitive areas and plump up mature complexions.

This serum is created with a botanical blend of 20 essential oils and a substance called Coenzyme Q10, which is the first antioxidant to vanish from skin as it is exposed to the sun, that works to boost skin and create a more youthful-looking appearance.

To use, apply between one to three pumps of May Lindstrom The Youth Dew onto clean, wet skin every morning and night.

The Clean Dirt Brightening Exfoliating Treatment £62

Stimulate and energise skin with The Clean Dirt, a cleansing facial treatment.

Formulated with a combination of clays, it includes white halloysite clay to remove impurities, along with red Moroccan clay to tone and balance moisture. 

To nourish and exfoliate, healing salts are added, while vitamin C provides antioxidant benefits. Also contains ginger to invigorate the skin. 

To use, take a teaspoon-sized amount of this luxury powder, then add a few drops of water at a time and mix into a soft, creamy texture. Rub the activated cleanser into skin and wait for the tingle, which shows it is working. Next, rinse away for a revitalised complexion.
