Vitamin B

Why vitamin B? Vitamin B skincare products can help with hyperpigmentation, breakouts, texture and fine lines without the irritation that comes with high doses of vitamin A or the stability issues of vitamin C. They can be used daily. There are 12 types of Vitamin B in total, but only 4 or 5 types are found commonly in skincare. The main ones we see in Space NK products are B3 and B5.  All types of vitamin B in skincare work well as pollution fighting anti-oxidants and also improve the skin's moisture barrier. B3 Great for calming acne and rosacea, brightening, minimizing pores and general anti-ageing Also known as niacinimide Anti-inflammatory - so great for calming acne or roseacea and fading redness Stimulates elastin and fibrillin production in fibroblasts (the cells which produces collagen and other fibres) Protects mitochondria (the energy factories in the cell) which means longer cell life, and improved barrier function, which leaves skin looking more youthful and healthy H...

Retinol, Retinoids, Retin A

When it comes to reversing the signs of skin ageing, Retinol is hands down the industry's gold standard ingredient. It has the power to help accelerate skin renewal and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and age spots for firmer, smoother and more evenly-toned skin. But what many people don't know about Retinol is that it is a highly-reactive molecule, meaning it can break down – and lose its potency – as soon as it is exposed to sunlight or air. Retinol converts to Retinaldehyde and then Retinoic Acid and this is important to note as it is the conversion process that determines the efficacy of your product. The less steps it takes to convert to Retinoic Acid, the more effective.  For example, active ingredients in your over the counter products like Retinal Palmitate, Retinal Acetate and Retinal Linoleate are the least effective because they have to ...

Vitamin C

Vitamin C Vitamin C Benefits for Skin V itamin C is one of the most exciting, research-proven ingredients you can apply to skin. This water-soluble antioxidant is a natural component of healthy skin. When we’re young, vitamin C levels in skin’s outermost two layers (epidermis and dermis) are abundant, but as we age, these levels naturally deplete. Unprotected sun exposure (UV damage) and pollution can accelerate this decline, leading to skin looking and feeling dull, uneven, and less firm than it once was. How Vitamin C Works Remember that unlike many other anti aging ingredients, Vitamin C is naturally found in skin (mostly in the epidermis, some in the dermis) and it’s role in skin biology is well documented.  Protecting from UV damage Although Vit C is NOT a sunscreen but it protects skin from the free radicals that are caused by UV exposure. It’s been shown to reduce lipid peroxidation, limit the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, protect against ce...
