About Dr Jackson & the Company
When Simon Jackson was a student he went on an expedition to the Amazon rainforest where he was taken under the wing of a local Shaman from the Jaguar tribe. The Shaman shared his knowledge of how plants had provided the primary health care of his tribe for generations- knowledge that had been passed down from his forefathers.
This inspired Dr Jackson to travel the world and learn more about nature's amazing and complex powers of healing from indigenous cultures. He has lived with local tribes, met with many Shamans and local healers to research the science of ancient medicines.
The study of medicines from natural products is called pharmacognosy. Cosmetic Products with biologically active ingredients purporting to have medical or pharmacuetical benefits are called cosmeceuticals. Dr Jackson's is a cosmeceutical company producing natural products based on pharmacognosy principals.
Dr Jackson's is an ethical brand, which never uses rare or endangered plants. They support indigenous populations and contribute a percentage of their profits to the NPC (Natural Product Community) to further the advancement of natural product science and protect and conserve plant species that are under threat in their country of origin.
Key Ingredients
Baobab
A tree native to Madagascar, Africa, the Arabian Peninsula and Australia. Also known as The Tree of Life due to it's many traditional uses for every part of it. Baobab fruit contains six times more Vitamin C than an orange and is a plentiful source of antioxidants. The seed oil is often used by African women to prevent and treat dry skin conditions in the harsh savannah environment.
Marula
Marula oil naturally softens, nourishes & revitalises the skin and reduces redness. It is high in natural antioxidants and linoleic fatty acid (Omega 6), which are great for reinforcing and smoothing the skin's surface. Traditionally it has been used in Swaziland by pregnant women to reduce stretch marks.
Frankincense
The dried resin from Frankincense has many medicinal properties and is common in traditional African, Chinese and Ayurvedic medicines. It is a powerful anti-inflammatory which works well to calm inflamed skin conditions. Frankincense has been used traditionally to treat acne, bacterial & fungal infections, and scarring.
Arnica
Arnica has been used medicinally for centuries as an anti-inflammatory, mostly to treat brusining, sprains/strains and stretch marks. It is also a natural fungicide which makes it a great natural preservative.
Mango Seed
Flavonoids found in the mango are strong anti-oxidants and have an anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effect on the skin. The seed oil found in the kernals of the mango fruit has been used traditionally in the rainforests and tropics for its skin softening, moisturising and protective properties. It contains fatty acids such as linoleic (Omega 6) and palmitic acid.
Kigelia
Kigelia is a tree found in sub-sahran Africa and has been used traditionally by tribal women to ensure a blemish-free even toned complexion. Compounds within the plant attach to dark pigmentation and inhibit melanin production, making it perfect for sun-damaged skin. Isoflavones in the fruit restore skin firmness and elasticity by supporting collagen production. Other parts of the tree have an anti-inflammatory effect and minimise blemishes.
Calendula
The flowers have been used by the Ancient Greeks & Romans as a medicinal herb. Applied topically to the skin it can ease pain & discomfort. The flower petals are rich in anti-oxidants.
